Today, I attended "The Wonders of Wiki." It was presented by Jeff Utecht. He had a very good understanding of wetpaint and was a great presenter. I hoped to learn new tools that I can take back to the classroom that will help my students be better prepared for the future.
Some of the things that I got out of the class are:
Advantages of using Wiki:
- Fosters Active Learning
- Ex: Student created lessons
- Collaborative Note-Taking
- Ex: Assign note-takers, Interact with other students
- Distance Learning
- Ex: ALC, ISS, Homebound
- Better Study Guides
- Ex: Students can review notes from the best note-takers which will also increase test scores
- Assignments
- Ex: Students can post assignments online rather than uploading or emailing them
The difference between Wiki and the others (MySpace, Google, etc.):
- EVERYONE has the right to edit content with the "EasyEdit" button
- All content on EVERY web page can be edited
- Alllows students to interact with other students across the globe
Rubrics:
- When developing rubric for collabarative learning make sure the students are aware of "Updating vs Contribution"
Active Learning:
- Move learning outside the classroom
- Allow students to control the content
- Face to face meetings should be used to discuss the student created content
Links:
- Economics Wiki
- FREE Web 2.0 apps that can be used with wetpaintI am excited about this new tool that I will take back to my classroom and encourage active learning among my students!

This sounds like it was a great session. I just created my wetpaint account and can't wait to learn more about it. Thank you for such a detailed post. I think teachers will be able to take what you have posted and be able to quickly utilize it.
